Ruth McClung Overwhelms Raul Grijalva In Their Only Debate

from Publius Pundit

Viva Ruth! Crowd cheers for Ruth McClung

Ruth McClung nailed Raul Grijalva in her first public debate against him. It was held on the south side of Tucson, which should be his turf, but the crowd turned against him. On every topic, ranging from immigration, to health care, to education, and especially the economy and jobs, Ruth McClung inspired her supporters and made many of the independent minds in the room give her a second look.

Even when Ruth first walked into the room, cheers burst out and she was given a standing ovation. Two Hispanic women cried out “Viva Ruth! Viva Ruth!” and the entire crowd joined in on the chant. It was truly a sight to behold!

The crowd erupted when Ruth talked about unemployment, and how Grijalva’s reckless call for a boycott of his own state has exacerbated the recession for the hard working families of the district.

Ruth McClung Moneybomb Today! Donate if you can… GOODBYE GRIJALVA!

from Publius Pundit

Two new polls by Magellan and Summit show that she is in a dead heat with Raul Grijalva, the man who called for a boycott of Arizona.Congressional District 7 has turned into one of the biggest sleeper races in the entire country, with Ruth rocketing ahead!

Ruth’s supporters have put together a money bomb website for her called Goodbye Grijalva (click the link!). The point is to have thousands of people donate a headline-grabbing amount of money all in one day. Certainly you can donate beforehand (they won’t mind), but the point is to have it all pour in at once!

So on Thursday, October 14, visit GoodbyeGrijalva.com and donate to Ruth anything you can give her. We need to break fundraising records here!

The rumor from the Grijalva camp is that the DCCC is going to start running TV ads in District 7 as early as tomorrow painting Ruth as a racist extremist (just look at this blog post from Mona Grijalva that plays the race card). She needs all the help we can give her to fight off these baseless attacks on her good character!

So please consider donating $10, $20, $50, $100 or more on Thursday, October 14! And make sure to forward this message to everyone you know!

Ruth McClung Gaining Fast On Grijalva In The Polls

from The Gila Courier

Wow, a banner week for Pima Dems:

7 points in CD-7: Ruth McClung is within 7 points of catching Raul Grijalva according to a new poll out.  CD-7 has been a snoozer for Grijalva for years but now that he has become the Joe Sweeney of Arizona tourism, maybe he has worn out his welcome with voters.  Congressman Grijalva called for a tourism boycott of his own state, apparently figuring that if he took even more tax revenue away from the state, and therefore the public school system, he could “persuade” the 70%-80% of Arizonans who support SB 1070 to change their minds.

Report on Coffee with Ruth McClung – June 3

After Action Report on Ruth McClung.
Running for Arizona 7th Congressional District
“Coffee with Ruth” event at Coffee Bean on June 3rd, 2010

Ruth was nicely dressed and presentable (as always). She was very personable and is very easy to talk with, approachable.

The meeting wasn’t a formal campaign speech, but rather a chance for voters to meet Ruth and ask her questions. I asked Ruth some pointed questions.

Question: What was the reason behind the 2nd Amendment to the Constitution ?

Ruth: We were at war with the British, or had just finished. The 2nd Amendment was necessary to ensure that the government couldn’t take people’s guns away. [This is an obvious reference to the citizens ability to resist tyranny, the true intent of the 2nd Amendment. Not hunting and self defense.]

Question: Foreign Aid ?

Ruth: Bad idea. The US gives money to dictators that either abuse their own people, despise the U.S. Or both. They don’t have to work at making their own country/govt successful because they use money from the U.S. To prop up their failing countries. [I've often wondered why the US always gives money away to tin-pot, despots that end up hating our guts. Tradition, I guess. It would be nice to see our congress give money only to those nations provided for in the Constitution].

Question: United Nations.

Ruth: I would defund it if I could. [among other things]Their record on Women’s rights is atrocious. [Ruth was not only referring to women's rights as subjects of UN power, but employees of the UN itself. What else would one expect from the UN ? ]

Question: Federal Reserve.

Ruth: The Federal Reserve needs to be held to task. Their only job is to provide stability, to prevent inflation and deflation. Not to allow the govt to print money whenever it wants. There needs to be accountability. The “audit the fed” bill is a one-time only measure. [Ruth seems partially informed of the fallacious “audit the fed” bill, (better than JD Hayworth.) I disagree with the “job” of the Fed. Obvious collusion between govt and the largest bank in the US have manipulated our entire economy almost to the brink of ruin for the benefit of a select few. It needs to be audited, the highest perpetrators imprisoned, then the institution destroyed.]

Question: Israel/Middle East/ Foreign Wars

Ruth: We need to do whatever it takes to prevent war. Sometimes it is necessary. [War is only necessary when the CONUS or interests vital to the U.S. (not oil fields) are threatened and Congress votes to declare war. The last “proper” war (at least according to how it was declared by an act of Congress) was WWII. Every “war” since has been a police action or rammed down our throats by bassakward presidential threats and commitments made before Congress could vote, one-way-or-another.]

Israel is our ally and we should stick by them. [True. I don't see much hope for Israel in the near future. I hope the Israeli's realize they are not only on their own, but the U.S.-with a muslim in the White house, is going to hinder their ability to defend themselves from the rest of the middle east. I'm pretty sure this has been mentioned in Revelation]

Question: Illegal Immigration.

Ruth: We need to secure the border. We need to control the immigration system. I support a guest worker program. I support a “high tech” fence. They will just find a way around a border fence. We need Border Patrol agents on the ground. [I disagree about the lack of need for a hard border fence, no sense making it any easier. In Yuma the fence has drastically reduced IA traffic through our home city and funneled it towards other areas.] When asked about putting NG on the border, Ruth said it was not a good idea: “NG is not trained to do law enforcement, we’re putting them in a bad situation where a law enforcement person is needed”.[True] Against amnesty.

However, “round ups of illegal aliens in America are a bad idea. This can be a slippery slope, when the govt starts rounding up people in mass numbers. They should, however, not be given the rights of a US citizen. They shouldn’t vote, they shouldn’t receive any kind of welfare and they should be deported in the event they are convicted of a crime”. [I agree with most of this. I think it will far far easier to accomplish, to allow “self deportation” back to their homeland, as long as we don't make breaking our laws beneficial, they should all eventually go away. I like her take on the risk to Constitutional freedoms for the citizens of the US and the realization of unintended consequences of “mass round-ups”]

While talking with other people, Ruth stated that she:

Wanted a balanced budget. [Good. I hope she has the continued courage to vote “no”]

Wanted to repeal the Health care bill. [We'll never repeal it with Obama in office, but we can defund it permanently].

In summation: I think Ruth has what it takes. I think she is the best shot at replacing Grijalva as our 7th CD representative. With Grijalva’s foot-in-mouth boycott of his home state, I think Ruth’s chances are better than ever. I hope she stays true to her conservative beliefs and sets an example in DC. The allure of politics is very seductive. The desire to belong on the inside is powerful.

What we don’t need is another Sarah Palin.
