Meeting Minutes 7/16/26

Meeting called to order: By Carl Kizer at 6:02 pm.
Invocation: Delivered by Cecil Boelts.
Pledge: Led by Carl Kizer.
New Visitors: None.
Elected Officials Present: David Lara, Yuma County Recorder; Doug Nicholls, Mayor, City of Yuma; and David Ibarra, Yuma Elementary School Board District One.
Candidates Present: Bobbie Jo Daily, County Clerk of the Superior Court; Malba Alvarez, County Clerk of the Superior Court; John Lesueur, Superior Court Judge; and Nicole Baggerly (on Zoom), Yuma Union High School District Board.
Chairman’s Update: Carl recapped the July 4 Event and indicated planning for an upcoming event to be held at Brewer’s on Avenue B. Stay tuned.
Secretary’s Report: Minutes of the CRTP Meetings are located on the CRTP website for review by the membership.
Treasurer’s Report: No Treasurer Report delivered due to the transition to the new treasurer. A big thank you to Sally Kizer, who, without hesitation, stepped up to the plate to take on the role of Treasurer. The next scheduled report will be delivered during the October meeting. Rich Medeiros accepted the invitation to be the designated non-board member to participate in the review of the financials and the financial management process due to the abrupt departure of the last one.
Ways and Means: Cindy Wenberg delivered the report. She thanked the volunteers who helped with events and functions, and those who provided refreshments.
New Business: The use of Zoom to include remote participants was a huge success. The CRTP intends to have Zoom available for all meetings to allow for an alternative means of joining. If you have any questions about how to use Zoom, please contact any board member to discuss. If you’d like help with setup, bring your device to the meeting.
Old Business: Steve reminded everyone about the CRTP America250 Page and encouraged everyone to see what is available through the site, along with a new RSVP function with auto reminders for events. Steve also advised members of the upcoming speakers.
Guest Speaker #1: Derek Egeberg, Candidate for Yuma City Council. Derek spoke about the council, how he would contribute, and use a data-driven approach, devoid of emotion, to make decisions.
Guest Speaker #2: Doug Nicholls, Incumbent Mayor, City of Yuma, and Candidate for re-election. Doug spoke about myriad topics, priorities for the city, and that his approach is data-driven. He also brought up the data center topic, which generated several questions. There appears to be enough interest in the group to dedicate a meeting around the subject of data centers in both the city and the county.
Guest Speaker #3: Jay Delancy, Founder of Voter Integrity Project of North Carolina. Jay spoke about many topics surrounding voter and election integrity, and there were many questions. He referred to his book, and at the end of the meeting, offered copies for sale at a discounted price. Motion to Adjourn: Tom Ramus moved to adjourn, and a second from Rich Medeiros was received at 7:45.
